I can find happiness in any creative endeavor. Started with a mom who liked to draw and sew. Fostered by many great art teachers, especially my teachers Mr. Mobley and Mrs. Bigham at Sumner Academy of Arts and Science in KCK. Launched off to Columbus College of Art and Design for 4.5 years and ended with a Fine Arts Degree. I did an installation of sculpture and printmaking to graduate but never followed through with Grad School. Instead I took a break and did faux painting and murals for about 5 years.
Married, had a son and didn’t continue any art explorations other than giving time to the school for fundraisers-fun to do but time consuming. Also, I’ve spent a lot of time gardening to scratch the artist itch during those 20 years, but now I’ve circled back.
I’m working on lowering my expectations and just putting in the time to figure out what I should focus on. I’ve joined They Draw’s, Illustrators Circle, plus taking a plein air classes with Joe Lombardo (a phenomenal teacher) and going out with Urban Sketchers when I can. I keep playing around in many different mediums and subject matter. Curious to see where it takes me but mostly…just happy to be on the path.
Thanks for your interest.
Cheers,
Kara
